Assistance for New Orleans (2/2/2006)
The Figure Skating Club of New Orleans desperately needs our help. The hurricanes last fall devastated not only the city of New Orleans, but also a large portion of Louisiana and the adjoining states. The repercussions are still being felt throughout that region of the country. So, in an effort to help the figure skaters and judges displaced by the hurricane we have been keeping in contact with the FSC of New Orleans to find out what their most pressing needs are and how the Los Angeles Figure Skating Club can help.
The most pressing need at this time is for test session judges. There is only one judge left in the area – all of the rest were forced to move due to the devastation. For the New Orleans club to be able to hold test sessions at all, judges will have to be flown in, which is a considerable expense and something that they cannot afford at this time. We want to help. LAFSC judges have already agreed to volunteer their time to travel to New Orleans to judge the tests, and the FSC of New Orleans will arrange for families who can host them.
But, we need a way to get our judges to New Orleans. That is where you come in. To make this possible, we are looking for LAFSC members who are willing to donate either money for judges’ flights, frequent flyer airline miles, or travel vouchers to send judges to Louisiana. The donated funds and mileage would only be used to fly the judges from LA to New Orleans and back.
If you, or someone you know, can help us with this effort by donating travel funds, mileage, or vouchers please contact LAFSC President Dawn Eyerly or Jackie Bundy at (818) 585-7924.
Congratulations to our National competitors (1/19/2006)
Brian Simm placed fifth in Novice Men, Tenile Victorsen placed tenth in Junior Ladies, Marisa Sharma and Amir Ganaba placed fourteenth in Championship Pairs, Tiffany Stiegler placed sixth in Championship Dance, and Themi Leftheris placed fifth in Championship Pairs. Congratulations to all of you - we are so proud!
