Sonja Henie Programs for Sale (11/3/2008)

Sonja Henie programs are being offered to collectors by the Los Angeles Figure Skating Club.  The cost of shipping and handling ($3.00) should be added for each program ordered.  Orders will be taken by Josephine Lawless (818) 347-1510 on a first come, first served basis beginning November 7, 2008.  Only telephone orders will be accepted.  Checks should be made out to LAFSC and mailed to Jo at 7363 Sausalito Ave., West Hills, CA 91307.  List of Programs

 

Junior Grand Prix News (10/1/2008)

Congratulations and good luck to Austin Kanallakan who will be competing this week at the Junior Grand Prix Event in Gomel, Belarus. Go Austin!  We are all proud and excited to have you as a member of our club.

 
We also wish to extend our congratulations and best wishes to Galvani Hopson (LAFSC) and his partner Kloe Bautisita who have been assigned their second Junior Grand Prix event in Sheffield, England from October 15-18, 2008, based on their strong performance at their first Junior Grand Prix event in Ostrava, Czech Republic in mid-September. Good luck Galvani and Kloe.  We're rooting for you!
 

SWP Regional Championships (10/1/2008)

Best of luck to all our skaters competing later this week at the SWP Regional Championships in Anaheim, California.  Skate great, and have fun!  We are proud of each and every one of you. Go Team LAFSC!

Sept, 2008 Ice Monitor

Hopson and Bautista Named to USFSC Developmental Team Envelope (8/25/2008)LAFSC member and Junior Pairs skater Galvani Hopson and his partner Kloe Bautista have been named to U.S. Figure Skating’s Developmental Team Envelope based on their 4th place finish in Novice Pairs at the 2008 U.S. National Championships.  In addition, the pair have received a Junior Grand Prix assignment.  In September, they will compete at the JGP Czech Republic event in Ostrava.  Congratulations and good luck!

Bys wins U.S. National Adult Dramatic Title (8/25/2008) 

LAFSC member Joan Bys recently became the U.S. National Adult Dramatic champion at National Showcase held in Rochester, Minnesota.  Congratulations, Joan!!!

 

Balao Awarede Most Outstanding Artistic Award (8/25/2008) 

Vanessa Balao was the recipient of the perpetual trophy for the Most Outstanding Artistic Program at the Glacier Falls Open competition.  Vanessa competed in Novice Artistic.  Way to go Vanessa!

LA Theater on Ice Captures First at International/National Theater on Ice Competition (7/5/2008)

The Los Angeles Theater on Ice team competed at the 1st National Theater on Ice Competition, which has been combined with the 13th International Theater on Ice Competition in Burlington,  Vermont.  There were 5 teams in the Senior Division, and the team won first in the short program (choreographic exercise) on June 26th with eight 1st place votes and one 2nd place vote.  The next day, they placed first in the long program (freeskate) with nine 1st place votes to capture the National Championship for the Senior Division.

On June 28th, they again skated their sort and long programs to place 1st in the 13th International Theater on Ice competition. For both programs, they earned eight 1st place votes and one 2nd place vote.   (videos of short and long programs). 

 

Sad News (6/26/2008)

With great sorrow we unfortunately acknowledge the recent passings of two LAFSC Home Club members James Yorke and Roy Wagelein. We shall miss them greatly. 
 
A memorial service in honor of Jim will be held on July 6, 2008, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Garden Room at Pickwick Gardens.  This will be followed by an open skate in the Ice Center from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in honor of Jim.  (see announcement)

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NATIONAL CHAMPION!!!

The Los Angeles Figure Skating Club is proud to be the Home Club of 2008 National Champion in Senior Pairs, Keauna McLaughlin!  Keauna and partner Rockne Brubaker  dominated the Championship Pairs event in their first Nationals as Senior competitors!

LAFSC SKATERS MAKE A GREAT SHOWING AT NATIONALS!

LAFSC was represented by seven members at the 2008 U.S. National Figure Skating Championships in St. Paul, MN from January 20-27th.   Everyone skated well and enjoyed the entire event by attending seminars, parties, and of course cheering each other on!  We are very proud of each and every one of you.  Congratulations to our accomplished athletes!

Keauna McLaughlin Qualifies for Grand Prix Final! (12/13/2007)

Congratulations to LAFSC member Keauna McLaughlin who, with Pairs partner Rockne Brubaker, has qualified for the Grand Prix Final.  The GP Final is taking place from Dec. 13th  – 16th in Torino, Italy.  Last year’s Junior Grand Prix Final champions, Keauna and Rockne, in their first season of senior competition, secured a spot in the Grand Prix Final on the strength of their silver medals at both Cup of China and NHK Trophy competitions.   We are all rooting for you!
